September Service Member of the Month Spotlight: Angela Longs

Posted By Amy Cimo, Community Coffee Company, Wednesday, September 19, 2018

As one of Forum 35’s core pillars, Service is important to us. We’re dedicated to giving back and improving Baton Rouge through service projects and volunteer opportunities. Each month, we feature an actively involved Service Committee member who goes above and beyond and is committed to making a larger impact on our community.

This month we’re so happy to introduce Angela Longs of L’auberge Casino & Hotel. Born in raised in Baton Rouge, Angela enjoys giving back to her community. Since joining Forum 35, she has been a huge help to the Service Committee and has joined several of our projects with St. Vincent de Paul, as well as our summer PEP project with Children’s Charter. Keep reading to learn more about Angela.

When did you join Forum 35?

I joined May of this year.

How did you hear about Forum 35?

I heard about it through my boss, Monica Rogers, after she told me about a few events.

Why did you choose to get involved with Service?

I’ve always enjoyed giving back, from joining VolunTEENs when I was younger to volunteering in college at Southeastern through various organizations. It makes me feel good that I’m impacting someone in need and dedicating my time to making someone else smile.

What has been your favorite thing about Service since jumping in?

My favorite thing about Service is being able to give back. I’ve encountered some of the most high-spirited individuals while volunteering. The smiles are contagious.

What's your favorite thing about Baton Rouge?

This city has the best food, hands down. Plus, I have really good memories being raised here. There’s nowhere like Baton Rouge!

Tell us a little about your profession and what you do.

I work as an advertising coordinator at L’Auberge Baton Rouge and as a social media coordinator for an online women’s magazine. At L’Auberge, I handle the digital side — snapping pictures, managing the website, helping create the cool content playing on the screens around property, and anything digital related that our guests will receive on property or in their emails. As a social media coordinator, I’m responsible for managing content across various platforms, finding relative content to post and updating our website regularly. I do a lot of typing daily!

Do you have any hobbies?

I love reading. I also love dancing, going to art exhibits, writing, eating good food, spending time with my loved ones and traveling.

What are you most looking forward to while being a part of the Service Committee?

I’m looking forward to continuing to serve my community and making someone’s day a little brighter.
