The Public Education Project

We're thrilled to announce our 2019-2020 Public Education Project school partnership with Louisiana Key Academy!

About PEP

Forum 35’s Public Education Project (PEP) is an initiative of its Service Pillar designed to provide an area school with young professional volunteers for a year-long service partnership. The goal is for Forum 35’s membership base to support opportunities to enhance the school environment and provide resources and opportunities for students to succeed.

Forum 35 recognizes that a strong public education system is essential for economic prosperity, social equity, and active civic engagement. PEP aims to support progressive and innovative education reform initiatives by providing committed volunteers and resources, as well as engaging other organizations and community leaders in a collaborative community-wide effort.

PEP is a continuation of the Autonomous School Network Project from 2007.

For Forum 35 Members

If you are interested in supporting public education in the Capital City, while forming connections with other young professionals through service activities, than this is the committee for you.

In this committee, you can expect to:

  • Help select the partner school
  • Brainstorm project ideas with the partner school
  • Execute service project plans at the school
  • Create lasting change for a school and its staff and students
  • Network with other community-driven, service-oriented young professionals

For Schools

Traditional public or charter schools in Baton Rouge are encouraged to apply for Forum 35's Public Education Project. Forum 35 will provide the year's chosen school with volunteers for various service projects based on the school's needs. Past projects have included physical improvements to the exterior and/or interior of the school, as well as assistance with in-school or after-school programming, such as school fairs, math nights, spelling bees, etc.

As the chosen partner school, you can expect:

  • One-on-one planning for service projects for the school
  • A group of dedicated young professionals willing to serve the school
  • Service projects planned and executed by Forum 35's PEP Committee

Applications are typically open throughout May and the partnership year begins in June and concludes the following year in May.
